Economic Crises and/in Economics Education

Abstract:-
After outlining the core features of major economic crises, I highlight the limitations of mainstream economics to accommodate these features. In particular, I shall critically evaluate the mainstream theories of income distribution and economic growth—both from conceptual and contextual perspectives. This shall be contrasted with the theories from the political economy tradition of Smith, Ricardo, Marx, Kalecki, and Sraffa. Subsequently, I conclude by presenting the benefits of pluralism and critical pedagogy in our economics syllabi and teaching.
