Call for Papers:

UGC-SAP Sponsored Two-day National Workshop on

“Growth and Productivity of Indian Economy: Contemporary Issues”

Productivity improvement is the principal driver of economic growth. It is evident that while Indian economy has been showing substantial growth at the aggregate level, the performance at dis-aggregate level is extremely asymmetric. Recent estimates of productivity growth reflect considerable slow down in all the major economies including emerging and developing economies over the past decade. This slowdown has compelled to identify factors responsible for it and to investigate its consequences on various spheres of economic life. There are differing views on the causes behind productivity slowdown. One view challenges the very reality of slowdown due to the measurement problems. The measures of productivity growth does not capture the true impact of digital services and measure of outputs and the prices do not capture quality improvements. Moreover, the conventional measures fail to take into account the depletion of environmental and natural resources and spill-over externalities associated with the output growth. Further, productivity growth is also a function of allocative efficiency. The differences in productivity arise due to misallocation of resources induced by various constraints and bottlenecks.

The workshop is proposed to refresh the contours of research and gather various practices and issues. The call invites papers for in-depth analysis, both theoretical and empirical, related to Indian growth and productivity issues in India. Sub-themes are:

  • Macroeconomic perspectives
