Abstract:-
This study aims to analyze determinant of cooking fuel at household level in Uttar Pradesh. As clean cooking fuel demand higher expenditure, it is supposed that higher expense on cooking fuel represent moving to clean cooking fuel. For this purpose, panel data from CPHS (CMIE) and household fixed effect model have been used. Cooking fuel expense shows positive elasticity with total consumption expenditure per capita. However, this elasticity is lower for higher income (consumption) group than the bottom income group. Looking at cast angle, ST cast group spend less while upper and SC spend more as compared to OBC cast group. Further, households with less education level have lower level of spending on cooking fuel. While, households having higher electricity access a higher propensity of spending on electricity. This suggests spill over positive effect of modern energy services on clean cooking fuel. It has implication for designing policy to penetrate LPG as cooking fuel.
